Overview
Welcome to the Department of Geo-Information and Earth Observation Sciences (DGIEOS) housed under the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (MUAST). The department currently offers one comprehensive Undergraduate Degree Programme in Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Applied Geographic Information Science and Earth Observation. The curriculum covers not only specific courses related to GIS & remote sensing but also their applications in various fields as electives. Thus, the department proudly supports other MUAST Faculties and the outside communities in the area of geo-spatial analysis and remote sensing applications including, but not limited to, agriculture, natural resources management, ecology, land use land cover change, urban & regional planning, natural hazards, programming and web mapping among many others.
The department cover all aspects of geospatial research including acquisition of ground based, airborne, and satellite data; development of software tools and data processing techniques; and use of data and tools for a variety of applications. The research we offer in the department is closely aligned with current needs of several government departments, industries and agencies. Therefore, the research, innovation, training and experience our students gain, prepares them well for a professional career and makes them very competitive as they seek employment. Graduates find employment in the burgeoning geospatial technology industry, in research departments of public and private organizations, and in major academic institutions because of their ability to build bridges to other areas
