Overview:
Department of Student Affairs offers innovative programmes and services that are relevant to the student needs and personal growth. It is also responsible for managing and directing all student welfare issues and is mandated to provide a conducive living and learning environment that promotes healthy social interactions. These main activities are meant to support academic activities in order to produce holistic students who enjoy campus life and achieve their goals throughout their academic journey at MUAST.
The Department partners with internal and external stakeholders to articulate these programmes, hence every MUAST student is an ambassador in maintaining the MUAST brand both internally and externally. All students are encouraged to be part of a club, be it, social, religious, cultural or recreational in appreciation of diversity. The suggested clubs promote networking, personal growth and prepare students for after college endeavours.These out of classroom activities are also meant to assist students discover their talents and to strive towards self-actualization.
The Department utilizes the students’ MUAST email addresses to disseminate essential information, and therefore, students are encouraged to keep their email addresses active so as not to miss out on important notices.
MUAST students are also encouraged to adhere to the stipulated rules of Student Conduct and Discipline Ordinance No. 5 either on or off-campus and during the semester or on vacation.

Dean of Students Office
The office of the Dean of Students is responsible for coordinating all the activities of the Division and to provide support to all students both Conventional and Block undergraduate and Post Graduate students. Services on offer include taking care of students with disabilities and financial challenges so that their full potential is realised without being discriminated.
Deputy Dean of Students Office
The Deputy Dean’s office is situated at Dozmery Campus and students facing challenges in raising their educational fees can access the government loan facility. They should contact the Deputy Dean’s Office. The office is also responsible for coordinating Life Skills Programmes on and Off Campus
Our Services
Accommodation and Catering (DACS)
The Department of Accommodation and Catering Services ensures quality provision of meals and adequate quality accommodation space to students. The department has two sections; Catering and Accommodation Services.
On Campus Accommodation Services
The mandate of the accommodation section is to ensure provision of Quality and Affordable accommodation Services to all our esteemed students for a fulfilling academic and social life. Currently, there are two halls of residence at Dozmery Campus with a carrying capacity of 72. Male and female students reside in separate hostels. Hostel 1, is reserved for female students and has a capacity of 36 and Hostel 2, houses male students with a capacity of 36.
On campus accommodation facilities have the following: Shared room with three beds per room, shared bathrooms where both hot and cold water is available and laundry rooms.
Off Campus Accommodation Services
The Division is also committed to assisting students in securing affordable and secure accommodation and supporting the needs and welfare of all off-campus students. There are a number of boarding houses with good quality facilities that were identified as off-campus residence, emphasis was on the provision of beds, reading desk and chairs, water tanks, kitchen facilities and WiFi. These are designated for students who learn at CSC Campus
Catering Services
The Section is mandated to provide and serve nutritiously balanced meals to the students and MUAST community at large. It also coordinates catering for special functions like Graduation Ceremonies, meetings and provides special diets including vegetarian meals.
Currently we are operating two Canteens, one at Dozmery Campus and another one situated at CSC Campus.

Health Services
The clinic offers services to students and staff including their dependents. MUAST students are on PSMAS medical aid cover. Staff members including the farm workers and their dependents as well.

Counselling Services
The section is currently housed in the Dean of Students office and Health Services Section provide support to students who present themselves with psychological, social ,academic, spiritual and financial challenges so that they will be able to cope with their situations. Students are encourages to feel free to contact any member of the Division to relieve them from any stress related issues.
Sports, Culture and Recreation and Club Activities
As a Division we offer several sporting activities which we currently compete locally within the University environment. A state of the art sporting facilities will be provided in the near future where students will be able to compete nationally. A vibrant interdenominational Christian Union which embraces all religions meets regularly at Dozmery Campus and students are encouraged to participate in this group in order to embrace diversity. In this Section a number of registered Clubs are currently operating and these are Peer Educators and Chess Clubs. Students are encouraged to join at least one club of their choice.For Coordination of these programmes contact the Dean of Students Office.
Student Representative Council (SRC)
Student Representative Council is an important wing of University governance comprising of elected leaders according to the Constitution who advocate and negotiate for student welfare issues. The board facilitates dialogue between management and students and disseminate information to the whole student body. They are very critical in upholding the positive MUAST brand and assist in marketing the University to prospective students.
Term of Office of SRC
• Elected members hold office for one Academic year from February to December
• Eligible members should have completed at least one full semester but in case of MUAST all registered students are eligible contestants
• All elected SRC members should be able to spend at least the whole year on campus and not out on Attachment when serving in SRC
