We would like to welcome all new and returning students to MUAST Libraries and to wish you a happy and successful new academic year.
Library Orientation (LO)
To those who might have missed LO;
LO is a core activity or programme of the university library that entails educating, enlightening, guiding and helping users to identify, understand and utilize the library information resources and services efficiently and effectively. Academic libraries offer many different ways to do research and offer a pleasant environment for students to study and follow their academic pursuits. However, many students overlook the library as a place for research and study. To them, it is an antiquated relic of academia, and they turn to the Internet and the comfort of their dorm rooms for their research and study needs.
MUAST DURA (Institutional Repository)
Institutional Repositories are digital collections capturing and preserving the intellectual output of a single or multi-university community to provide a compelling response to two strategic issues facing academicinstitutions:
– as a natural extension of academic institutions’ responsibility as generators of primary research seeking to preserve and leverage their constituents’ intellectual assets; and
– as one potentially major component in the evolving structure of scholarly communication.
Information Literacy Skills
Traditionally, Literacy meant the ability to read and write. In this day and age, there are various types of literacy, for example, audiovisual literacy, print literacy, computer literacy, media literacy, web literacy,
financial literacy, functional literacy and library literacy. Information literacy is a combination of all these concepts but goes beyond them.
Welcome message to new students:
Ladies and gentlemen, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (MUAST). I wish to congratulate each of you, first, on having secured your university place and second, for having the good sense to choose to study at MUAST.
